WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The simplest way to create value from data within your HR organization is analytics. There are two places you can create value.
Better informing decision making within your own department - As an HR leader, it’s important to allocate resources, invest time, and focus your priorities on the highest value initiatives. With analytics, you can reduce uncertainty and have better information at your fingertips when you need to make important decisions
Better informing decision making across the rest of the company - Because HR is absolutely critical to the success of the organization, your job is to influence decision making at different levels - the board, leadership, departments, teams, etc. With analytics, you can make sure you have the data necessary to better inform decisions across the company. Performance management, process improvement, etc. are all great areas to invest time and money into analytics.
In both scenarios, it’s important to spend MORE time identifying the right questions to ask THAN spending time trying to get data to answer the question. It’s a common trap teams fall into when applying analytics within their team or organization.
